Roll The Dice Gift Exchange Game Setup
This Christmas game is super simple to set up. I recommend having all of your guests bring a wrapped gift to play with in the Christmas gift exchange. Make sure to set a price range for the gifts such as $20-$30.
Then, print off the Christmas dice game printable at the bottom of this post and bring it to your Christmas gathering or party. On the printable you will find two different versions of the Christmas dice game to choose from.
Once everyone arrives and you are ready to play, place all of the gifts in the center of the table and have everyone gather around in a circle. Next, go over the gift exchange dice game rules and start playing!
Gift Exchange Dice Game Rules
Setting the rules before playing the present exchange dice game is super important. It helps eliminate any disputes that may arise, which is especially helpful if you have a competitive family like myself.
This game shouldn’t need a timer, but in case you are in a time crunch, you can set a time limit. If you choose to set a timer, make sure everyone knows how long it will be for and that once the timer goes off the game will end immediately. Everyone will take home the gift that is in front of them at that time.
1. Starting The Game
To start, ensure everyone has one present in front of them. You can either pass them out at random or have everyone take one to start the game. You can also make it a rule if you so choose that you can’t start with the gift you brought.
2. Determining Who Goes First
Next, decide who will go first. The easiest way I have found is to have everyone roll the dice. Whoever rolls the largest number gets to go first. Then, continue the play in a clockwise direction.
Another way you could decide the order number is by putting numbers in a hat. Whichever number you draw out is the order you will sit in and take your turn during the game.
3. Playing The Game
The first player will start the gift exchange game by rolling the dice. If you are using the two dice game printable you will need to use two different color dice.
If you don’t have different color dice, you will need to roll the dice one at a time. The first die rolled will represent the green die on the printable, and the second die rolled will be the red die.
Player one will do the corresponding move from the printable. For example, if the first number rolled (or the green die) is a 3 and the second die rolled (or the red die) is a 2, then that player will look at the chart to figure out what they need to do with their present.
In this case, they would trade their gift with someone shorter than them. Then, the next player will take their turn by rolling the dice and doing the corresponding move.
4. When The Game Ends
If a player rolls doubles, they are allowed to leave the game with the gift they have in front of them, or they can choose to stay and keep playing. The game ends for everyone as soon as the last gift is opened.
You can also set a timer if you don’t want the game to go longer than a certain period of time, such as 30 minutes. Just make sure everyone is clear on that before starting the game.
