This year, I wanted to create something that would be perfect for our family’s Thanksgiving celebration. Since my Halloween left right game was a big hit this year, I decided to make a Thanksgiving version.

Left Right Game Setup
The very first thing you will need to do is determine how many people will be playing the Thanksgiving left right game. Then, you will need to get either a treat or small gift for each player.
One fun idea is getting various candy bars to play this game with. If you are hosting a Thanksgiving gathering or Friendsgiving, you can also ask each person to bring a small item ($10 or less).

How to Play
To start the game, have everyone gather around the table. Then, have each player start the game holding a gift/treat. Next, begin reading the Thanksgiving left right story.
Every time the word “left” is said in the story, then everyone passes their gift to the left. When the word “right” is said in the story, everyone passes their gift to the right. When the story ends, everyone keeps the gift they are holding.
Thanksgiving Left Right Story
It was Thanksgiving morning, and Mrs. Parker got up right at the crack of dawn to start preparing the big Thanksgiving dinner they were hosting this year. She got right to work peeling potatoes, making side dishes, and prepping the turkey.
After getting everything ready, Mrs. Parker carefully took the freshly baked pumpkin pie right out of the oven and placed it on the kitchen counter to cool.
All she had left to do was put the turkey into the oven to cook. “I’m going to go get ready,” Mrs. Parker said to her family. We have one hour left before the company starts arriving.
While Mrs. Parker went upstairs to get ready, the rest of the family went right to work on cleaning the house and getting it ready for their Thanksgiving gathering.
While they cleaned, no one noticed what was happening in the kitchen. Their dog Max smelled the delicious pumpkin pie that was left on the counter. He snuck in, jumped right up, and ate the entire pie. All that was left were two small crumbs.
When Mrs. Parker came back downstairs, she looked at the counter and froze. “Oh no! Where is the pie?” she cried. The family quickly realized that Max had snatched the pie right off the counter.
There was no longer enough time left to bake a new one, so Dad volunteered to go to the store right down the street and buy one instead. When he got there, he discovered there were no pies left to buy.
He got right back in his vehicle and went to four more stores, and still couldn’t find a pie. He was running out of time, and company would soon be at their house, so he left and went right home empty-handed.
On his way home, Dad saw their neighbor, Mrs. Johnson, going for a walk on the left side of the road. He rolled his window down to say hello and asked what her plans were for Thanksgiving.
She said, “My daughter’s flight got cancelled, and my son got scheduled to work, so no plans for me today.” Dad didn’t want her to spend Thanksgiving alone, so he invited her to their house.
“Thank you!” Mrs. Johnson said. “I’ll be right there. I just have to run home quickly and grab something.” When Mrs. Johnson arrived, she surprised everyone. She was carrying two pumpkin pies.
One in her left hand and one in her right. “I baked these earlier today, right before I knew my kids wouldn’t be able to make it,” Mrs. Johnson said. “I figured I’d bring them right over so we could all enjoy them together.”
Everyone cheered. The family thanked Mrs. Johnson and welcomed her to Thanksgiving dinner.
That evening, after their Thanksgiving feast, everyone enjoyed a slice of the delicious pumpkin pie before they left.
What started as a Thanksgiving disaster turned into something wonderful. They got to share Thanksgiving with Mrs. Johnson, who would have otherwise spent the holiday alone.
