Dinosaurs are a fun topic to teach young kids. Both my older two kids did preschool at home with me, and one of the things we covered was dinosaurs (there are so many fun dinosaur activities and games you can find on Pinterest).
With my youngest starting preschool at home in the fall, I created a dinosaur matching game for us to play when learning about dinosaurs. Matching games are great for younger kids because they help develop their memory and ability to focus and pay attention to detail.

Supplies
- Dinosaur Matching Game Printable
- Cardstock Paper
- Printer
- Scissors
- Laminator
- Laminating Sheets
Directions
First, you’ll need to print off the dinosaur memory game at the bottom of the post. You will want to use cardstock like this for printing so that the dinosaur images do not show through.
If you don’t have cardstock on hand, you can try taping multiple sheets of paper together after you’ve printed so that you can’t see through the cards.

Next, you’ll want to laminate the dinosaur matching game cards. This is very important if you plan to play this game with young kiddos because it’ll allow you to reuse the cards and keep them from crumpling or ripping.
To laminate, all you have to do is place the dinosaur matching game printable (before cutting) into a laminating sheet like this. Then, slide the laminating sheet through a laminator. Once the printable is laminated, then cut out each individual memory card.

Once all 24 memory cards are cut out you are ready to play!
How To Play
To play this dinosaur matching game, you’ll first need to flip over every card so you cannot see the picture. Then, mix up all of the cards.
Next, arrange the cards into a grid so that there are 4 rows of 6 or 6 rows of 4.
The grid setup should look similar to the picture below.
If this game becomes too easy for your child make it a little more challenging by spreading the cards out randomly and not putting them into rows and columns.
Once you have your matching game board set up, have someone go first (I like to let the youngest go first and then continue clockwise).
The person going first will pick two cards and flip them over. If the cards match then that player gets to keep the cards and go again.
If the dinosaurs do not match, then they flip the cards back over and it becomes the next player’s turn.
The game continues until all of the cards have been matched up and then whoever has the most dinosaur matches at the end, wins!
