Do you want a birthday scavenger hunt that is sure to put a smile on your child’s face? Look no further, these are the best clue cards for a memorable birthday treasure hunt.

birthday scavenger hunt

Kids look forward to their birthdays all year round and if you’re anything like me you want to make that one day a year extra special for your child. Having three kids myself, I am constantly looking for and creating new ways to make them feel special on their big day.

With my youngest daughter turning four in a couple of weeks I decided to create a fun birthday scavenger hunt. In the past, I have made treasure hunts for many different holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and St. Patrick’s Day (you can find all of my treasure hunts here).

My kids go absolutely nuts over these treasure hunts. I don’t know whether it is the excitement of solving and following clues or the unknown prize at the end, regardless, my kids LOVE them.

Similar to my other holiday hunts, these birthday scavenger hunt clues are fairly easy. The clues lead to indoor items found in most homes, such as a sock drawer, a mirror, the refrigerator and more.

This birthday scavenger hunt is sure to make your child’s birthday even more memorable.

This post is all about a birthday scavenger hunt.

Next, decide if you want to use all of the clues or only certain ones. Then, cut out the clues.

A fun tradition you could start with your kids is to use the same number of birthday scavenger hunt clues as their age. For example, my daughter is turning four so I could choose four of the birthday clues to use, and then next year, use five.

Another fun way to jazz up the birthday scavenger hunt would be to tape a dollar bill or piece of candy to each of the clue cards.

While you cut out the clue cards I recommend numbering them on the back. This way, if two clues are in the same room your child will know if they found the correct one.

Make sure to set aside the first clue because this one will not be hidden. Give this one to your child when you are ready for them to start their birthday scavenger hunt.

If you would like, you can roll up each clue and either tie some ribbon around it or tape it shut with some fun washi tape like this.

If you choose to roll them, make sure to number the clues immediately after you roll it so you don’t forget which clue is which.

Birthday Scavenger Hunt Setup

To set up the birthday treasure hunt you will need to hide the clues around your house. How it works is you will hide the birthday scavenger hunt riddles in the location of the previous clue.

Clue number 3 will go in the location of clue number 2, clue number 4 will go in the location of clue number 3, etc.

I have the order of the clues and locations listed out below, so while you hide the clues, you may want to pull this post up to make it easier.

You can also rearrange them in a different order than I have listed because it is not dependent upon the clues like with some of my other scavenger hunts.

When you get to the last card it says “Hooray, you did it! You found each one. Your birthday treasure hunt is finally done. You’ve solved each clue now time for your prize. Go look in your closet for your Birthday surprise!”

You would then place their birthday present in their closet.

Are you looking for birthday gift ideas for your child? Below I’ve listed some great birthday gift ideas for different age ranges.

Birthday Gifts for Toddlers (1-3 years)

A balance bike is a great option for toddlers. It is an awesome gross motor toy that will help them learn how to ride a pedal bike. This is the balance bike my toddler has.

2. TonieBox Audio Player

My 3-year-old loves her Toniebox. She especially likes the paw patrol characters you can get to go with it. Once you have a Toniebox, you can buy all sorts of different characters (they make great birthday gifts and stocking stuffers) that play songs and read stories.

3. Soft Foam Blocks

These soft foam blocks have gotten SO much use in our house. We got them for my oldest daughter when she was a toddler, and they still get used almost daily by all three of my kids ranging in age from 3-8.

When they are toddlers they liked climbing all over them and stacking them up. As they’ve gotten older, they use them for imaginative play such as chairs and a table when they play restaurant or stepping stones when they pretend the floor is lava.

Here are some other great gifts for toddlers: Melissa and Doug Play Food (just check the sizes because some are small and can be choking hazards for our littles), Easel for drawing and painting, Scribble Scrubbies (my toddler could sit and play with these for hours), any type of Animal Figurines (we like the Schleich brand because they are very realistic and hold up well).

Birthday Gifts for 4-8 Year Olds

1. Squishmallows

These soft, cuddly stuffed animals are all the hype. They can be used as pillows, collectibles, or just the most adorable, super soft stuffed animals. My kids are obsessed! They come in all different sizes, some are even scented, and you can get different characters (my kids love the Pokemon ones).

They also make fun Squishmallow mystery bags.
