Christmas charades is one of the best holiday games because it is fun for adults and kids of all ages. However, when it comes to charades there can be a reading barrier.

Having a three-year-old myself, I decided to create printable Christmas charades cards with pictures so she could join in on our holiday fun.

These printable Christmas charades have pictures of various holiday items such as a Christmas tree, sleigh, gingerbread house and more!

This post is all about a printable Christmas charades game for kids.

If you choose to laminate, place each page into a laminating sheet like this and run it through a laminator. Once they are laminated, cut out each Christmas charade card.

How to Play Christmas Charades for Kids

Option 1

One way to play Christmas charades is to have a person draw a printable Christmas charades card. Then, set a timer for 3 minutes. Have them try to act out the picture without using any vocal sounds and see if anyone can guess the correct answer.

Whoever correctly guesses the card gets to keep the card. Then, a new person draws a card and acts it out. When all of the cards have been acted out whoever has the most cards wins the game.

Playing charades this way is great for family night or even a classroom activity because it keeps the whole family or class engaged and guessing.

Option 2

The second way to play is team based and is great for large gatherings and parties that have a mix of kids and adults. If you want to play this way, I highly recommend checking out my other Christmas charades post. Here you will find 120 printable Christmas charades color-coded based on difficulty.

The red cards are worth one point, the white cards are worth two points, and the green cards are worth three points.

A majority of the picture charades in this post are the same as the red one-point charades so you can replace those with these picture cards.

There are a few others you may have to replace such as Nutcracker which is listed as two points and Yule log which is listed as three points. I recommend leaving these picture charade cards out and keeping them as words cards because they are more difficult to act then the others.

During the game, younger kids can choose from the picture charades and the adults and older kids can pick from the two and three-point charade cards that only have words. This allows for everyone to participate in the fun.

To play, break up into teams and then flip a coin. Whoever wins is Team 1. They will choose a player to act first. This player will draw a card from the one (picture cards), two, or three-point pile.

Next, set a timer for three minutes. The player from Team 1 will begin acting out their card. If Team 1 guesses it correctly before the time runs out then they will get points for that card. If they do not guess the card correctly, then Team 2 gets one guess to steal the point(s).

Afterwards, it is Team 2’s turn to act. Keep going back and forth for X amount of rounds or until one team reaches X amount of points.

Christmas Charades Word List

Here is the list of words used on the Christmas picture charades.

*Do note, when playing with kids who cannot read, the answer to the card is whatever they think the picture is. For example, on the card that says Rudolph. Suppose they see it as just a reindeer then the answer would be reindeer instead of Rudolph.

Another example would be the card that has an ugly sweater. If they see it as just a shirt then the answer would be “shirt” instead of “ugly sweater.”
