A DIY Monster Book of Monsters notepad is an easy and fun Harry Potter craft to make.

If you are a Harry Potter fan like me, then you know all about the Monster Book of Monsters textbook that was required for the Care of Magical Creatures class in Harry’s third year at Hogwarts.
This book was known for trying to bite the reader’s fingers. The only way to calm the book was by stroking its spine.
While this DIY Monster Book of Monsters won’t be chomping anyone’s fingers, it is 100% adorable and a fun activity for any Harry Potter fan.
In this post, you will learn about all of the supplies needed and how to make a DIY Monster Book of Monsters.
This post is all about a DIY Monster Book of Monsters.

Choosing Supplies for a DIY Monster Book of Monsters

The first thing you’ll need to do is decide how many DIY Monster Book of Monsters you want to make so you can accurately buy your supplies.
The first item you’ll need to buy is faux fur. I bought the Light Brown Craft Faux Fur by Creatology at Michaels. Each fur piece was 9 in. x 12 in., so I was able to make 3 DIY Monster Book of Monsters out of each piece of fur.
Faux Fur Fabric
Next, you will need white and red felt like this. These are for the teeth and tongue. I bought a few sheets of felt, but only ended up needing one of each color for the 10 Monster Book of Monsters I made.
Felt Fabric Sheets
You’ll also need to have googly eyes like this. If you don’t already have googly eyes at home, I recommend buying a multi-size pack that comes with a storage case.
My kids always use googly eyes as crafts, and the small zippered bags they come in can be a pain to try to open and reach into.
You’ll also need a notepad for your DIY Monster Book of Monsters. I used these 3×3 Post-It Sticky Notes. I like these because when the sticky notes run out, you can glue down a new pad of sticky notes to keep reusing the Monster Book of Monsters!
Now that you have your supplies, it is time to start making the DIY Monster Book of Monsters.
Cutting The Supplies
First, pull out your faux fur fabric. If you are using 3×3 Post-It Sticky Notepads, then I recommend cutting your faux fur into pieces that are roughly 7 3/4 inches x 3 1/2 inches.

If your notepads are a different dimension, then your faux fur will need to be a little more than double your notepad width and slightly more than the notepad height.

Once you have cut your faux fur, then cut out two strips from your white felt and one strip from the red felt for each book.
The teeth will need to be the same length as your faux fur book height. For example, my faux fur was 3 1/2 inches tall, so my teeth were also 3 1/2 inches.

The tongues I made were roughly 2 inches but I just eyeballed them so they all are slightly different.

Then, cut triangles out of the white strips to make the teeth. Because these are monster teeth, I wouldn’t worry about making sure the teeth are identical.

Next, cut a triangle out of the end of the red felt strip to make a forked tongue.

Then, print off my free Monster Book of Monsters printable at the bottom of the post and cut out each box.

Now it is time to start gluing.
Gluing the Monster Book of Monsters
On the inside of the faux fur (not the furry side), use a hot glue gun to glue the notepad to the right side.

Make sure to leave a little room on the edge so you can glue the teeth in place.

Then, glue the “Monster Book of Monsters” printable on the left side of the notepad. Again, you’ll want to leave a little room for teeth.

Next, put a strip of hot glue along the teeth and put them into place. You want to glue about half of the teeth onto the faux fur and leave the other half sticking over the edge. Do this on both sides.
Then, glue on the tongue by placing a small amount of glue on the end (not the forked side).

Stick it down in the middle of the teeth on the notepad side (right).

Next, close the book by folding the fur in half. Face the tongue towards you and pick out four googly eyes.

I chose two different sizes for the eyes, but you can choose whichever eyes you think look best. Glue them onto the fur, similar to the photo below.

Now your DIY Monster Book of Monsters are complete!
