Traditions are a great way to spend time with your family while also enjoying the holiday. If you are like me, you want to create memories as a family that not only you can fondly look back on but your kids will as well. As a mama to three myself, I’m giving you my favorite Easter traditions you’ll want to start with your family.
These family Easter traditions range from dying Easter eggs and making peep houses to Easter movies and more!
After reading about these traditions, you will be so ready to start making memories with your family.

Family Easter Traditions

1. Dye Easter Eggs
To dye Easter eggs you’ll need to start with hard boiled eggs. The easiest way to make hard boiled eggs is to fill a large pot with water, add in however many eggs you want, turn the burner on high and set a timer for 20 minutes. When your time is up your eggs should be done, it is so simple.
During the 20 minutes that the eggs are cooking you can set up your dye cups. First decide how many different colors you want to do. You’ll need one cup or container per color. Once you’ve gathered your containers then mix a 1/2 cup boiling water with 1 teaspoon vinegar in each of your cups.
Depending on how wide your container is you may need to double or triple this recipe. The goal is to have your egg completely submerged.
Once you’ve gotten your containers filled, then add the food coloring to each one. Next, using a spoon submerge your eggs in the colored liquid for five minutes.
If you have toddlers or young children you can slide an egg inside a wire whisk and let them dip it into the dye holding the whisk. This handy trick helps them get the egg in and out of the dye without dropping the egg or splashing the dye everywhere.
After the eggs have been in the dye for five minutes, remove the eggs and let them cool.
2. Easter Craft
Do your kids enjoy doing crafts? Spending some quality time as a family working on an Easter craft can be a fun way to get excited for the holiday. These unfinished Easter wood cutouts have different wooden Easter shapes that you can paint, decorate and then hang up as decoration when they are completed.

3. Easter Morning Breakfast
Creating a fun Easter morning breakfast is a great family Easter tradition. Last year our family had Easter bunny pancakes and they were such a hit with our kids.
To make them, I used bacon for the ears, M&M’s for the eyes, and a raspberry for the nose. If you are interested in some more Easter breakfast ideas here is a list of some cute ones your kiddos will like.

4. Easter Treat
Yum, who doesn’t love a treat? Spend some time with your kids making a fun Easter recipe. Here are a few ideas you and your kiddos can try. We loved making (and eating) Easter Bunny Chow last year using Easter M&M’s.

5. Easter Games
Does your family do a family game night? If not, I HIGHLY recommend starting one. It is such a fun way to bond as a family.
In the few weeks leading up to Easter try playing an Easter-themed game with your kids. My kids have this Egg Toss game. It is basically a stuffed animal that talks and can detect whether or not it has been dropped on the floor or caught.
The goal is to pass the “egg” back and forth and see how many times you can pass it without dropping it.

6. Easter Olympics
Host an Easter olympics! This one is great for larger family gatherings but can also be done with just your immediate family. Break up into teams if you have a large group otherwise compete individually.
Be prepared, there will be tons of laughing and many memories made!

7. Easter Egg Hunt
Kids of all ages LOVE an Easter egg hunt. Fill some eggs with treats, prizes or money and hide them around your house or yard. Then, see if your kiddos can find all the eggs.
You may want to make a note of how many eggs are hidden so you can make sure all are found.
If you have older kids and want to add a challenging twist, try doing a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt. To do this, just pick up some mini glow sticks like these and put them inside the eggs right before you hide them.
You can also place treats or prizes inside the eggs but it could end up blocking the glow so I recommend distributing prizes afterwards.

8. Easter Egg Coloring Picture
Print off a blank Easter egg coloring sheet for everyone in the family. Then, get out crayons, markers, colored pencils or any other decorative materials you want to use.
Next, have everyone decorate their eggs. Once you all are finished cut out the eggs and hang them up. They will make the perfect springtime decoration.
9. Easter Movie
Movie nights are a great family bonding activity. Sometime in the week leading up to Easter try having an Easter movie night.
Have everyone get into their pajamas and get out pillows and blankets to make some comfy seating. Then, check your pantry for some movie night snacks such as popcorn, chips or pretzels.
Next, settle in and watch an Easter-themed movie together. Here is a list of a few family-friendly Easter movies.

10. Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are such a fun family activity and perfect for all ages. Print off an online Easter scavenger hunt or make up your own. It is sure to be a fun family Easter tradition your kids will beg you to do again every year.

11. Leave Carrots For The Easter Bunny
Have your little ones leave out some carrots for the Easter Bunny the night before Easter. They will be so excited to see the carrots gone in the morning!
12. Easter Pictures
Bring out your camera and get some updated pictures of your kids. The weather is finally warming up making it perfect weather for outdoor photos.
13. Easter Books
Reading Easter books with your kids is a great bonding activity and a fun way to get excited for the upcoming holiday. Pull out any Easter-themed books you may have or check some out from your local library.

14. Peep Houses
Similarly to a gingerbread house try making a Peep house. Pick up a package of peeps and let everyone have a peep to build a house for. Using icing and graham crackers build your houses.
Then decorate the houses using sprinkles and candies such as Easter M&M’s.
15. Easter Baskets
Fill an Easter basket with goodies for your kids to find on Easter morning! You could add snacks, candy, small toys, clothes, or new shoes.
I like to include activities they can do outside now that the weather is warming up such as bubbles and sidewalk chalk.
