If you are looking for an Alphabet bingo game, you have come to the right spot! This is the perfect way for preschoolers and kindergarteners to learn their letters.

Learning to read is a fundamental skill children need to flourish in society. This skill does not always come easily to kids and takes a lot of practice. Having taught all three of my kiddos to read at home before Kindergarten, I can tell you the most important part of learning to read is phonics. Phonics. Phonics. Phonics.
Having a well-developed ability to recognize letters and knowing letter sounds is so crucial in becoming a proficient reader. With that said, a lot of kids struggle to learn letters and often find it very boring, which is why it is important to find fun ways to teach them to read.
One fun way to keep kids engaged and strengthen their letter recognition is to play alphabet bingo. During alphabet bingo, kids hear the name of a letter and then search their bingo card for that specific letter. You can also mix it up by only saying the sound of the letter and they have to find the letter on their card that makes that sound.
In this post you will learn how to play alphabet bingo and get a free copy of the uppercase and lower case ABC bingo game. Each game comes with 30 unique bingo cards which is perfect for the classroom.

Alphabet Bingo Setup
Before you can play, you’ll need to set up the game. First, decide which version of the alphabet bingo you would like to use. There are both a lowercase and an uppercase ABC bingo game.
Next, decide which calling cards you’d like to use. There are small calling cards that come with the ABC bingo printable. There is also a separate FREE printable that has larger calling cards. The large ones are great for big groups if you plan to show them the letter.

If you plan to just say the letter and have the kids find the letter without seeing it then the small calling cards work great.
Print out your alphabet bingo boards and the calling cards of your choosing. Next, I recommend laminating the bingo boards and calling cards. While this is not mandatory to play, it will make the game hold up better, allowing you to play it again in the future.

After printing (and laminating), you will need to cut out your calling cards. If you choose the smaller ones, there are two identical pages of them.
Only cut out the individual calling cards on ONE of the pages. You will use the second page to cover them after they’ve been called (it makes it easier to see which cards have been called when someone gets bingo).
Once the alphabet bingo boards are printed and the calling cards are cut, you are ready to play.
How To Play ABC Bingo
To begin the game, the first step is to divvy out the bingo chips. You can get a large pack like this from Amazon or use any small items such as pencil erasers or math cubes.

Next, give each player an alphabet bingo board. Each player will place a bingo chip on the free space in the middle of their bingo card.
Then, place all of the calling cards into a bowl. Draw one card out and tell the group the letter. You can decide whether you want them to figure out what the letter looks like or show them the card.
If a player has that particular letter on their alphabet bingo card, then they will cover it with a bingo chip. Note that not every letter will be on each bingo card because there are 26 letters and only 24 bingo board slots.
After everyone has enough time to search their card for that letter you will draw another calling card. Again, tell or show the group the letter.
When someone gets five chips in a row on their alphabet bingo card, they will shout BINGO. The five in a row can be either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

After a student calls bingo, check the calling cards you have already drawn to ensure that the letters they have covered have, in fact been called. If they have all been called, then that player wins. If they have covered a letter by mistake, they will uncover that letter and the game will continue.
Keep playing as many rounds as the group would like! Also, it can be fun to include some bingo prizes for the winners.
