Directions
You’ll first want to decide which type of coupon book you’d like to make. I have two different styles of Mother’s Day coupons, as well as, blank coupons that you and your children can write on.
Once you’ve chosen a design, download and print off that printable. You’ll want to print it on cardstock like this to make the coupons more sturdy.
Neenah Cardstock
Next, cut out each individual coupon. Then, go through all of them and take out any you don’t want to use.
If you prefer, you can use the blank Mother’s Day coupons and come up with your own Mother’s Day coupon ideas. If you have multiple children, you can have them each come up with a few that will be from them. Make sure to have them sign their coupons so she knows who to redeem the coupon with.
Once you have all the coupons cut out, arrange them in the order you would like and stack them on top of each other making sure they all face the correct direction.
For the next set of directions, I have split them up according to which coupon book you choose. The small Mother’s Day coupon book is slightly larger than 4.5 inches x 3 inches. Whereas the large coupon book, as well as the blank coupons, are roughly 7 inches x 2.5 inches.
If you choose the larger coupon book you can skip down to that section here or scroll down.
Small Coupon Book
At this point, you should have all the Mother’s Day coupons cut out. Now, organize them in the order you’d like.
Once you have them all together, level them out by tapping them on the table. You want to make sure the end with the colored strip is all level.
Then, put clips on the side to hold them together. I didn’t have any binding clips like this so I just used fridge clips instead. However, I did end up with indentations from the clips (you can read more and see pictures later in the post).
Binding Clips
Now, using your paintbrush put a layer of Mod Podge along the binding. If it happens to go over the edge just wipe it off with a paper towel. Once you have covered the entire surface, let it dry for 20-30 minutes.
Then, do another coat and let it dry for 20-30 minutes.
While it is drying, you can make the cover. To do this, first lay the cover flat on the table with the pink strip on the left and the “Mom’s Coupon Book” on the right.
Then, fold back the pink strip on the left side of the cover.
After you have done this, you are going to fold over the front cover, bringing it halfway into the pink strip. Once you have it lined up, press it down.
Once your two coats have dried, remove the binding clips. You now are going to put a thin layer of Mod Podge again on the binding but this time also on the pink strip of the first coupon making sure to stay above where it says “Coupon Never Expires”.
Then, place these Mother’s Day coupons inside of the cover sleeve and press it down. You can use a clip to hold it in place while it dries, however, do not leave the clip on for long.
I made this mistake and left to run an errand during this process and the clips left indentations (you can see in the picture below). This also could have been because I didn’t use binding clips and instead used fridge clips.
Once the Mod Podge has dried for a third time, you are ready to give your Mother’s Day coupon book to that special mom in your life.
Large Coupon Book
At this point, you should have your coupons all cut out. Arrange them in the order you would like and stack them together. You will also need to put on the front and back cover. Make sure the flower design is facing out on the back like the picture below.
Once you have them all together, level them out by tapping them on the table. You want to make sure the end with the colored strip is all level.
Then, put clips on the side to hold them together. I didn’t have any binding clips like this so I just used fridge clips instead. However, I did end up with indentations from the clips (you can read more and see the picture above in the small coupon book section).
Binding Clips
With your coupons held together, dip your paintbrush in the Mod Podge and put a layer along the colored edge of the coupons.
Mod Podge Glue
Make sure you get Mod Podge along the entire edge. If any runs over the side, just wipe it off with a paper towel. (The picture below is of the smaller coupon book but applies to the larger one as well)
Once you’ve covered the whole binding, let it dry for 20-30 minutes. When the time is up do one more layer and then wait 20-30 minutes again.
*After that time is up, remove the clips right away. This is super important! When I first made one, I left the clips on for a few hours while I ran an errand and when I came back and took the clips off it had left indentations on the coupon book. It may have also helped had I used binding clips instead of fridge clips.
Once the Mod Podge is dry your Mother’s Day Coupon Book is ready for gifting!
Other Binding Options
If you do not have Mod Podge, you could also bind the Mother’s Day coupons together with ribbon or a stapler. Before doing either of these two methods, I highly recommend folding each coupon along the colored edge back and forth a few times before binding. This will help make it much easier to tear out a coupon.
If you want to staple them together, you’ll either need to use a fraction of the coupons or print on regular printer paper instead of cardstock. When they are on cardstock the stack of coupons is too thick for the stapler to go through.
Another option would be to hole punch 2 holes in each of the coupons as well as the front and back cover. Then, you would tie a ribbon through the holes to secure them.
