Looking for Grinch scavenger hunt clues for your kids? This is a fun Christmas treasure hunt your kids are going to love!

As a mom to three kids, I know how much kids LOVE scavenger hunts, especially when a little Christmas magic is involved!

With Christmas right around the corner, I decided to create a Grinch Scavenger Hunt for my kids to enjoy on our annual Grinch Day, complete with a Grinch feast and plenty of Grinch movies.

In this fun Grinch scavenger hunt, kids will follow a series of rhyming clues around the house as they race to stop the Grinch from stealing the Whos’ Christmas!

Along the way, they’ll help save the presents and remind the Grinch what Christmas is really all about. At the end of the hunt, the Grinch returns the presents and leaves the kids a special surprise to thank them for helping him discover the true meaning of Christmas.

This scavenger hunt is a fun way to bring the magic of How the Grinch Stole Christmas to life and create a Christmas memory your kids will love!

Printer Paper (8.5×11)
Scissors
Tape
Christmas surprise/gift

Directions

First, download the free Grinch scavenger hunt clues at the end of the post. Then, cut out each clue. You may want to number the clues on the back so the kids can find them in the correct order. The order goes top left, top right, then work your way down continuing to go left to right.

After all the clues are numbered and cut out, set aside the first one. This is the clue that says, “Oh no! The Grinch took the gifts and ran out of sight. Now Christmas in Whoville just won’t feel right! The Whos need your help to get their things back. So follow the clues and stay on his track! To start your hunt, here’s where you begin. Look where you take your shoes off when you first come in!”

This first clue you will not hide. Instead, you will give it to your kids to start the hunt.

Treasure Hunt Setup

To hide the clues, you’ll start with the 2nd clue. This clue will be hidden in the riddle’s location of the first clue (shoe rack or rug or wherever you take shoes off in your house).

Next, you will hide the third clue in the 2nd clue’s location and then the 4th clue in the 3rd clues location etc. Keep doing this pattern until you get to the last clue.

Some of the locations you will need to tape the clue up, like on a light switch. It can be fun to use some cute Grinch Washi tape like this. Otherwise, you can just use regular tape. Make sure you tape them within your child’s reach.

The second to last Grinch clue card says “The Grinch loaded the Whos’ trees and wreaths on his sled. With gifts, ribbons, and bows piled high overhead! He thought of the Whos and how sad they would be, when they woke up to find no gifts under the tree! You’re running out of time so hurry on ahead. Your next clue is waiting where you rest your head!”

I have the bed as the last location so that if you have multiple children they can do the treasure hunt together but then each of them can get their own treasure.

On each of their beds, I would include a small gift, the red heart from the printable, and the last Grinch scavenger hunt card.

Grinch Scavenger Hunt Clues

It may be helpful to save this post and then pull it up when you go to hide the clues so you know where to hide each one.

1. Oh no! The Grinch took the gifts and ran out of sight. Now Christmas in Whoville just won’t feel right! The Whos need your help to get their things back, so follow the clues and stay on his track! To start your hunt, here’s where you begin. Look where you take your shoes off when you first come in!

Answer: Shoe Rack or Rug

2. The Whos all loved Christmas, they loved it a lot. But the Grinch on Mount Crumpit most certainly did not! That’s why we’re in this dilemma today. Now look where you brush your teeth twice a day!

Answer: Sink near their tooth brush

3. The Grinch hated Christmas, or so they all say. Because his heart was too small, so he grumbled all day! He left another clue so don’t wander away. Look where the books are lined up on display!

Answer: Bookshelf

4. The Grinch looked down from his cave at the town. He hated their cheer and gave a big frown. He’d do anything to stop their Christmas fun. And make sure Christmas never would come! Here in your house he stopped for a drink. Look where he left his cup, right near the sink!

Answer: Kitchen Sink Near a Cup

5. The Grinch hated the Whos’ feast, with Who pudding and roast beast! Where would the Whos put their food away? Check the fridge to find another clue today!

Answer: Refrigerator

6. Even more than the feast, the Grinch hated their singing. The Whos Christmas songs made his ears start ringing. To find the next clue, look all around. Find what you wear on your ears to hear sound!

Answer: Headphones

7. The Grinch came up with an awful plan, to steal Christmas from Whoville, as fast as he can! He dressed up as Santa with a red suit and sack, and dressed his dog Max as a reindeer to help haul it all back! To find the next clue, go take a quick peak, where dirty clothes go for a wash every week!

Answer: Washing Machine

8. While all of the Whos were fast asleep in their beds, the Grinch and Max crept out, with mischief in their heads! They headed to Whoville to carry out their plan, to steal all the Whos’ Christmas things as fast as they can! Another clue must be hiding it can’t be too far. Go check the item that unlocks a car.

9. The Grinch began stealing all the presents, stockings, and more. He left the Whos with nothing not even a crumb on the floor. The Grinch also left a clue, so don’t move too slow. Look where you watch movies and your favorite TV show!

Answer: Couch

10. Cindy Lou woke up while the Grinch stole her tree. She asked him, “Why?” as surprised as could be! He sent her back to bed, then snuck away in the night. Look where you go to turn off the kitchen light!

Answer: Light Switch for the Kitchen

Last Clue Card

12. YOU DID IT! HOORAY! YOU SAVED CHRISTMAS DAY! You followed the Grinch and helped out the Whos, you searched high and low in your hunt for clues! The Grinch saw your kindness and started to know, that Christmas is about the love that we show! It’s about kindness and love and spreading good cheer, and making the ones that you love feel dear. So, he returned all the gifts, making Christmas just right. And his heart grew three sizes and he filled with delight! He left you this heart and a gift just for you. To thank you for all the kind things that you do. Merry Christmas, dear friend, you helped save the day. Now Christmas cheer is back in Whoville to stay!
