There are so many benefits of reading and it is an important life skill that all kids need.

If you are anything like me, you want to instill a love for reading and lifelong learning in your children. As a mom of three, I wanted to make a sheet my kids could document their reading with. Something they could use to set reading goals and see their progress.

As a result, I created and am sharing with you this printable reading log where kids can document the date, title of the book they read, and how many minutes they read for.

Directions

This printable reading log is a great resource for both parents and teachers. If you are a parent, print this reading log off and hang it up on the refrigerator. Make sure to print one off for each of your children.

First, have your child make a reading goal. Then have them document all the reading they do for an entire month. At the end of the month add up their minutes so they can see how close they were to meeting or surpassing their goal.

Each month print off a new reading log and have your child set a new goal.

If you are a teacher, print off enough copies for each student. Then, send one home in each of your student’s take home folder at the start of the month. Have your kids document the reading they do at home. At the end of the month, have them return their reading log.

It can be fun to set a goal for the entire class and have a special treat if the class meets that goal. This is a great way to encourage kids to read outside of school and work together as a class toward a shared goal.

Here is the free printable reading log for your littles who are not reading themselves yet. This is a great tool to develop a love of books in toddlers and preschoolers. Every time you read a book with your child, let them color in the box or put a sticker like this in it.
