With each new season come fun books that get your kids excited for the upcoming holidays. If you’re like me, when the decorations come out so do the holiday books. As a mom with three young kiddos, I am giving you the best Halloween children’s books that my kids beg to read over and over again.

1. Eek! Halloween!
Eek! Halloween! by Sandra Boyton is a must-have Halloween book for young toddlers. It is very short, funny and keeps the little ones engaged.
When my oldest was 2 years old this was one of her favorite books. We read this so many times that she had this entire book memorized and would “read” it to us.
2. 5-Minute Halloween Stories
These 5-Minute Halloween Disney Stories make the perfect bedtime story during the Halloween season. This book definitely ranks at the top of best Halloween children’s books.
The book does such a great job coming up with interesting Halloween stories with kids’ favorite Disney characters.
We have quite a few different 5-Minute Story books and in my opinion most of the stories are not that great but this Disney Halloween book is SO much better than the rest of them.
Our kids’ favorites are The Princess and the Frog: Tiana’s Ghost and Wreck-It Ralph: Tricky Treats.
3. Duck & Goose Honk! Quack! Boo!
Duck & Goose Honk! Quack! Boo! by Tad Hills is a family favorite. In this cute best friend story, Duck and Goos are enjoying their night trick-or-treating when they hear a swamp monster is looking for them.
Good thing Goose is dressed as a brave superhero and Duck a scary ghost. Your kids will love the anticipation and not-so-scary ending to this book.

4. Five Black Cats
Five Black Cats by Patricia Hegarty is a fun rhyming board book that follows five cats on their brave adventure. My littles enjoy finding and counting the five cats on each page.
5. Little Blue Truck’s Halloween
Little Blue Truck’s Halloween by Alice Schertle is a perfect Halloween book for toddlers. Not only does it have a cute rhyming scheme but it has fun flaps to lift throughout the story.
On each page there is an animal dressed up for Halloween and a flap to lift to see who it is dressed in disguise.
6. Click, Clack, Boo
Click, Clack, Boo by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin is a fun Halloween addition to the Click, Clack, Moo series. What are those farm animals up to this time?
Farmer Brown does not like Halloween, read this story to find out if his farm animals can help him see the fun in the holiday.
7. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything by Linda Williams is a fall story that is sure to keep everyone engaged trying to figure out what will happen next.
Is there finally something that scares the little old lady? Read this spooky tale to find out!
*If you have young kids who are easily scared, I would not recommend reading this to them because it does involve someone being chased by a pumpkin and clothing through the woods at night.
8. Inside A House That Is Haunted
Inside a House That is Haunted by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is a great book for beginner readers. It has the repetitive text to help them remember what they’ve read while adding a fun rhythm.
As you read this book, have everyone guess what they think will happen. The ending is sure to be a silly surprise.
9. Spooky Pookie
Spooky Pookie by Sandra Boynton is a great Halloween book for young toddlers. Our family is a huge Sandra Boynton fan.
Not only are her books board books, but they are smaller in size and perfect for little hands to hold and flip through.
In this book, Pookie is struggling to find a costume to wear trick-or-treating. One is too itchy, another too hot.
Your kids will love this catchy rhyming book and finding out what Pookie finally decides to wear.
10. Bonaparte Falls Apart
Bonaparte Falls Apart by Margery Cuyler is such a cute story with Halloween themed characters. I love that it has great messages regarding friendship, problem solving, and overcoming fears.
It not only makes a great book to read around Halloween but also a good one to read around the start of school.
11. T. Rex Trick-or-Treats
T. Rex Trick-or-Treats by Lois G. Grambling is a dinosaur themed halloween story.
T.Rex wants to be something scary but can’t find any costume scary enough for his liking. Read this book to find out what T.Rex ends up wearing for a costume.
12. Go Away, Big Green Monster
Go Away, Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley isn’t necessarily a Halloween book but it is a monster story so it’s fitting.
This book is very interactive and children LOVE this book, including mine who have it memorized after the amount of times we have read it.
My four-year-old loves the page where the full monster is shown and she loudly reads, YOU DON’T SCARE ME and then proceeds to finish the story by telling each part of the monster to go away.
If you have any children who are scared of the dark or of monsters this book is a must-have. Putting the child in charge is a fun approach to helping them conquer their fears.
13. Ten Timid Ghosts
Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O’Connell is a rhyming, counting story. Kids get practice counting backwards from ten as the witch scares the ghosts one by one out of their own house.
Read this book with your kids to find out what the ghosts will do to get their house back.
14. Room on the Broom
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson is a Halloween story about a witch who makes friends with various animals who help her find her lost items. In return for helping her she makes room on her broom when they ask for a ride.
When the broom finally breaks and the witch lands near a hungry dragon, will her new friends save her?
15. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat
If you are a fan of the There Was an Old Lady series by Lucille Colandro then you’ll want to add There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat to your collection.
Your kids will enjoy this silly Halloween story of an old lady who swallows some bones, a wizard, a ghost, and many more Halloween things.

On Halloween Night by Harriet Ziefert is a rhyming story that builds on repetition as a young girl is putting together her Halloween costume. Due to the building repetition it makes another great book choice for young readers.
17. The Spooky Wheels on the Bus
The Spooky Wheels on the Bus by J. Elizabeth Mills is a fun twist to the classic Wheels on the Bus. This funny, counting Halloween story is filled with great illustrations.
Read this book or sing it to the Wheels on the Bus tune, either way your kids are going to love hearing it this fall.
18. I Spy
I Spy Spooky Night and I Spy A Pumpkin by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick are great look and find books for kids of all ages.
We have both of these books and I would highly recommend I Spy Spooky Night. This one is an entire book filled with spooky Halloween themed pages and items to find while I Spy A Pumpkin is more an early reader book that only has one page Halloween themed.
19. Happy Halloween, Biscuit!
Happy Halloween, Biscuit! by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is another cute lift the flaps book.
This story is about a girl and her puppy named Biscuit as they go trick-or-treating on his first Halloween. This is a great story to prepare little ones on what to expect on Halloween night.
